9 . Many parents, of course, are quite prepared to nurse and to nurture an infant inflicted with multiple deformities. The truth is, however, that a large portion of the Catholic population is not able to arrive at such a position and, in due course, they hand over their children as wards of the state. Unless such deformed infants are quickly adopted by loving parents, they die rather quickly due to the fact that, in public institutions, they lack the loving touches and the playfulness that is necessary to keep any human baby alive, no matter whether it has one, two, or three arms.
